Personal Consultant

Sometimes you may find yourself bothered by a problem that is getting in the way of your day to day life. You may not be sleeping well, you might feel overwhelmed with stress, or feel out of control with your eating. If you are otherwise doing well but feel this problem is holding you back, then consulting may be an option for you.
Simply put – consulting is a time-limited, highly focused process that exclusively addresses an identified problem. It has elements of training and education, and has the goal of improving your life skills within the area of focus. Consultations are generally completed within 3-5 sessions.
Why a Personal Consultant?
Not everyone has the time, interest, or need for counseling/therapy, but I strongly believe that everyone can benefit from consulting a psychologist. It is not necessary to be in crisis or have serious issues to seek services, and improving life skills may even prevent more serious issues down the road.
How is Counseling Different?
Counseling/therapy is a much more in-depth process and exploration of the important issues in your life. It is generally more open-ended and flexible, and allows for a more thorough approach to addressing the struggles you might be facing. If you are unsure of what is the best fit for you, feel free to contact me to discuss your options.

Personal Consultant & Training Topics
Sleep
When you close your eyes at night does your brain switch on? Do you wake in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep? Quality sleep is critical for all aspects of functioning. Sleep loss affects every aspect of life including health, weight, work productivity, relationships, and mood.
Improving Sleep. Improving Life.
The world is a much brighter place after a full night’s sleep. A sleep consultation is an evaluation of your current sleep habits and issues, and an active training to eliminate habits that are detrimental to restorative sleep and replace them with habits that increase the length and quality of sleep. A sleep consultation addresses the physical, cognitive and emotional aspects contributing to healthy sleep.
Mindful Eating
Have you had the experience of eating in front of a screen and barely remember taking a bite? Do you eat when you aren't physically hungry? The diet industry has put a wedge between our minds and our bodies teaching us to rely on them to tell us when and what to eat. It's no wonder that so many of us have lost touch with our own hunger and satiety cues.
A Non-Diet Approach
A mindful eating consultation takes into account your personal history of eating and/or dieting to clarify the habits you’ve developed over time. Using a non-diet approach, this active training uses mindfulness and a body-centered focus to put you back in charge of your own nourishment and remove the diet and weight loss industry from your life. This consultation is intended for those who have been trapped on the diet roller coaster and wish to exit. It is not intended for more serious eating issues which should be addressed in therapy.
Stress Management
Do you feel overwhelmed with all the things you have to do? Are you having trouble saying no and feeling like the list is always growing? Do you often feel like your blood pressure is rising? Stress can take a significant toll on our health and wellness. Stress is not all bad and there are times when it can't be avoided but there are also times when our own thoughts and behaviors increase our level of stress.
Taking a Deep Breath.
A stress management consultation takes into account the way you perceive your obligations and how that contributes to your overall sense of stress. It also targets important areas that impact stress such as assertiveness training, prioritizing, and training in relaxation. It is tailored to your specific situation and needs with the goal of reducing stress through changes in behavior, cognition, and physical state.
Custom Consultation
The consultation and training areas offered here are examples of common problems many people face. It is not an exhaustive list and there may be an issue you face that is well suited to a brief and targeted consultation. Some examples of other topics include perfectionism, assertiveness, and self-esteem.
Tailored to You.
If you are interested in a consultation on a topic not listed please contact me and we can determine if the problem is well suited to a consultation or if counseling/therapy is a more appropriate choice.
